San Diego Professional Cleaning Tips: Sparkling Showers

Let’s focus  on  showers since this is such an important area of concern when it comes to cleaning.  There are 4 great cleaning tips that will help you make sure that your showers remain sparkling and clean at all times.  As stated in previous posts, wet areas are breeding grounds for mold and mildew; they look nasty and they smell terrible.
Start by wearing your gloves at all times when cleaning, never mix ammonia and bleach, and follow these steps:

  • Keep it dry and ventilated.  The more you allow the moisture in your bathroom to sit the more mold and mildew will attack your tiles and ceiling.  Keep a dry towel to quickly wipe down the tiles after every use, and open a window at all times to encourage air flow.
  • Use bleach OR ammonia mixed with water as a cleaning solution, but never both at once since the combination of these two fumes is toxic.  Ammonia is great for removing soap scum from glass and bleach kills mold and mildew on contact.
Shower tracks can collect buildup so be sure to loosen the dirt with a small brush and vacuum it up.  Consider pouring a cleaning solution into the tracks as well in order to kill germs  and remove tough dirt.
  • Wash your shower curtain.  This is a step that most people never think of, but it works.  Throw your curtain in the washer with some bleach, vinegar, and laundry detergent and wash in warm water.  Hang the curtain to dry.  Baking soda can also be substituted for the bleach and vinegar.
